An Icon of Transoceanic Voyages

The Niña, with its Spanish name meaning "girl," was one of the three ships used by Christopher Columbus on his legendary voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492

Originally named Santa Clara, the nickname Niña might have been a humorous reference to the owner's name, Juan Niño

About 20 meters long, this caravel was initially equipped with triangular sails, but during a stop in the Canary Islands, the lateen sails were replaced with square sails, transforming the Niña into an even more capable ship for the challenges of the open ocean.

An Epic Adventure into the Unknown

The Niña was part of a daring expedition towards unknown lands. With the wind filling the sails and the sea stretching to the horizon, this caravel crossed the oceans, carrying with it the dream of new discoveries and endless horizons

Sailing through stormy seas and facing the challenges of the journey, the Niña embodied the spirit of maritime exploration on its voyage into the unknown.

A Triumphant Return and Lasting Legacy

The Niña, along with the Santa Maria, was one of the only two caravels to return under Columbus's command after the Pinta was separated during a storm. Its return marked the triumph of an extraordinary endeavor and the ongoing zeal for discoveries.

Although the wood and sails of the Niña may have vanished over time, its spirit of adventure and its contribution to the history of navigation remain indelible, inspiring generations of explorers and sailors around the world.
