Hunter Q-Ship

This model represents a cargo vessel, rigged as a schooner, built in the early 1900s and also used as a collier in peacetime.
Owned by the British Merchant Navy, it was taken over by the Royal Navy thanks to its robustness and seakeeping qualities suitable for the North Sea, to convert it into a Q-Ship.
Converted at Queenstown yard (hence Q-Ship) during wartime, it was fitted with false structures to conceal the armament. The bulkhead walls of the dummy hold and fake cabin could be folded down and stowed in the hold through the hatch, while the lifeboat was lowered overboard.
